[Editorial note: It is a Cambodian tradition, dating back to the times of the Angkor Empire, that every monarch upon his demise is given a posthumous title. The title is normally worked out by a committee of Buddhist monks appointed specially for this task, who submit to the King for approval the title they have come up with following their deliberations and consultations. The King then proceeds to sign a Royal Decree (Kret) bestowing the title on his predecessor. In the case of His late Majesty, Preah Bat Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, a ceremony was held on 27 & 28 November 2012 in front of his coffin at the Throne Hall in the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, during which he was bestowed with the title of Preah Karuna Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh.]
